WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TRIP

All divers will arrive in Key Largo on the 18th of August. We will enjoy great scuba diving on local reefs and shipwrecks with our scuba partner shop Sea Dwellers Dive Center. Sea Dwellers offers discounted diving for JetBlue employees and their families as well as full diving gear rentals. We will socialize below and above water surface and explore Key Largo - The Diving Center Of The World. On designated weekend day we will join CRF staff at the CRF Education Center to spend morning at orientation where volunteer scientist divers will teach us everything about coral reef and replanting techniques.

In the afternoon we will travel by boat to World's largest coral plantation in Tavernier, FL where we will help clean up underwater plantation trees, cut and prepare corals to be planted on local reefs later on. Then we will head to local reef sites to plant coral and see with our own eyes the progress of growth and amazing change CRF is making with its restoration efforts.

ACCOMMODATION AND COSTS

Although The Florida Keys seem to have reputation for high accommodation prices there are great places we stay during our dive trips in the area which have reasonable price tag. We will be responsible for our own accommodation costs and arrangements and we have few recommendations for participants.

Our no.1 pick is Pelican Cottages with great waterfront placement, just minutes away from diving shop, marina and CRF Education Center. The prices range from 90 USD per night per double room to 250 per larger 4-6-8 people apartment accommodation.

Second best, our no. 2 is Sunset Cove Beach Resort. It is located right next door to Pelican and offers similar prices and room types.

For those who need more hotel style lodging there is Courtyard by Marriott (Cluster Code 5CR for discount) or Holiday Inn (corporate id for discount: 100327652) next to the marina with rooms on little pricier side of the budget.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMEMNTS

All participants are required to:

1. Hold at least Open Water Diver certification

2. Complete at least 30 open water dives before CRF day

3. Pay one time volunteer fee of 50 USD to CRF on the day of activities (tax deductible)
